Mixed Media on Wood Panel, 18” x 24”

2024

My work unites my love for storytelling, editing and thrift shopping.  I’m intrigued by archetypes and patterns found in dreams, literature, music, pop culture and the natural world. I combine images gleaned from discarded books, magazines and other paper ephemera as well as found objects, sewing notions, and my own painting and drawing.

Throughout my lifetime, I’ve explored drawing, printmaking, metal smithing, photography, filmmaking; and spent over 25 years teaching many of these disciplines to high school students.

Opening doors for young people to find their voices as artists and giving them a set of tools to navigate their inner, lived experiences made me want to do more for them - and for myself.  In 2015, I trained as a professional mental health counselor - helping me be a better guide to the students I work with.  Through this, I’ve learned to listen more deeply to myself.

There are motifs, threads and themes throughout my work that carry significance for me.  I encourage you to respond to what evokes meaning for you.

Enjoy and thanks for stopping by - Nance
